Best Date Spots in the East Village

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I’m sharing some of my favorite date spots in my new ‘hood. These restaurants are cozy, romantic and oh-so-perfect to share a bite with the one you love.

1. Via Della Pace

This unassuming little restaurant on East 7th Street doesn’t seem like much from the outside, but once inside, you feel as though you’ve been transported to a cozy Italian café. Everything about it feels authentic – from the Italian servers to the extensive wine list, and of course the mouth-watering food. The owners are transplants from Rome, and their Italian roots show through in the décor and welcoming atmosphere.

It’s a small space that tends to fill up quickly on weekends. Reservations are not accepted, but you can always enjoy a glass of wine at the bar while you wait to be seated.

2. Northern Spy Food Company

If you or your date are into locally grown foods and sustainability, then this is the perfect spot. The menu is always changing to accommodate the seasonal foods of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern regions. Their website lists every local purveyor who supply the ingredients, from meat and cheeses to seafood and bakery goods. Even the décor is derived from reclaimed wood and natural materials.

The dishes are simple and well-priced, though portions are not large. The space is small and sparsely decorated, but somehow still feels homey.

Limited reservations are available, and recommended.

3. Bianca

While technically located in the “NoHo” neighborhood, slightly west of the EV, I’m including it on my list because it really is a perfect date spot. This is another cozy Italian restaurant with an authentic feel. The prices are very reasonable and the food is amazing (read: gnocchi is to die for). From the dim lighting to candle lit tables, it feels like you’re in a much more expensive restaurant. On the downside, this is the most cramped of the 3 restaurants mentioned, so you may end up getting an earful from your neighbors.

Cash only, and reservations are not accepted. The host invites you to stop into the bar next door while you wait for a table, and he’ll come get you!

Hope that everyone enjoys a lovely (and delicious) date night this Valentine’s Day!
