Overpriced Mexican food in Manhattan :(

Guacamole

Why so pricey?

What is with the overpriced Mexican food in Manhattan? I went to Mama Mexico (Midtown East) last night and paid $23 for a fajita plate, plus $12 for a small portion of guacamole for the table. If you add drinks, I don’t think you can get out of there without paying at least $50 for dinner. Rude.

Just down the street from Mama Mexico is another overpriced Mexican restaurant: Dos Caminos. At least Dos Caminos provides an upscale environment and some unique dishes.

I know, I know. It’s Manhattan and everything is overpriced. But there have got to be some cool hole-in-the-wall cheap Mexican joints out there. I just haven’t found them yet.

One of the few more affordable Mexican restaurants that I know of is Blockheads. But honestly, who goes there for the food? It’s all about sitting outside and boozing up with awesome drink specials. Be real.

Help a girl out. Any suggestions??

  1. Hey there! Love that your starting a blog. I never keep up with mine! If you haven’t already, you should go to Tortilla Flats near the Flatiron District. They have good food, decent prices and if you go on a Tuesday they have the most amazing bingo night in the city. It’s so much fun! I heard Agave is pretty good and semi-reasonably priced!

  2. Hey Lindsey! Good to hear from you! Thank you for the suggestions, I will definitely check both of those out. I need to satisfy my constant Mexican food-craving without going broke!

    Talk soon 🙂
