To celebrate one of the first nice evenings of the season, I made the trek to Queens to drink a few beers the Garden @ Studio Square. This huge indoor/outdoor beer garden did not disappoint. As it’s still early in the beer gardening season, I wasn’t surprised that the place was a bit slow on a Thursday night. But I could see the vast potential for an indulgent evening of drinks and shenanigans with friends this summer. The atmosphere was perfectly summertime. I could almost picture myself scream-singing “Summer Nights” while leaping atop the oversized picnic tables. (Almost.)
I must also mention that the hot dogs were delicious and nicely complemented by 18+ beers on tap. With cheap sangria and wine specials, I’m sure this place gets ROWDY on busy summer nights. Best of all, the outdoor space features a decent-sized stage, so I’m eager to see what live music will be passing through. (FYI- The Roots are playing at 7pm on May 4th!)
The only downside– the neighborhood feels like a ghost town. I specifically remember commenting that it’s the kind of place where no one would hear you scream. Eek! I definitely would not wander solo to and from the subway, for the sheer lurking-serial-killer potential alone. But it is only a few stops back to Grand Central on the 7, so travel time is not bad.
Anyone up for an adventure, let’s make another trip out there soon! What’s your favorite beer garden in NYC?
